PAAU Hosts NYSC Director for Final Year Students’ Orientation
Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba in collaboration with Directors of Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Kogi State, held orientation programme for the final-year Students on the modus operandi of NYSC on the 8th of July, 2025 at Old Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Adegoke Adetunji, warmly welcomed the NYSC delegation and commended the students for their attendance. He particularly praised the smooth relationship between PAAU and NYSC.
Addressing the student’s body on behalf of Kogi State Director of NYSC, Mr. Linus Iorsula Terlumun provided a brief history of the NYSC, noting that the scheme was established by decree in 1973 and has since become a vital government institution. He highlighted various communities across Igala land that have benefited from NYSC activities, including Idah, Olamaboro, Imane, Okpo, and Odumomo.
He stated that the purpose of the orientation was to bring the NYSC closer to final-year students of PAAU and to prepare them adequately for national service. Mr. Linus outlined the core objectives of the scheme, particularly its aim to foster national integration and equip graduates with experiences and training that enhance their employability after service.
He advised students to embrace cultural diversity during the three-week orientation camp, where they would be required to interact and collaborate with people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. He emphasized the importance of tolerance and teamwork.
In preparation for the NYSC registration, Mr. Linus listed vital requirements such as accurate personal information (including full names without abbreviations), correct date of birth, local government and state of origin, and original copies of academic certificates (both O’Level and degree). He also noted the specific documentation required for married female candidates eligible for service.
He concluded by clarifying eligibility for service: only students who graduate before the age of 30 qualify to serve, while those who are 30 or older at the time of graduation will receive exemption certificates. Military personnel are automatically exempt, regardless of age.
With no questions from the audience, Professor Adetunji thanked the NYSC team for their informative presentation and formally declared the session closed.
