PROFESSOR (CHIEF) SALISU OGBO USMAN
B.Sc, M.Sc, PhD, PGDE, FABEN, FCIEEE
Salisu Ogbo Usman hails from Angwa Ogebe in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State. He holds B.Sc and M.Sc Political Science from Bayero University Kano and University of Ilorin respectively. He obtained PhD in Political Economy and Development Studies from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
He started his public service career as an Administrative Officer at the University of Ilorin, jfrom where he transferred his service to Kogi State University, Anyigba (now Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba) as Assistant Lecturer. He rose steadily to the rank of Associate Professor with the University and now a Professor of Political Science with the Federal University Lokoja.
Professor Usman Ogbo served variously as Departmental Examination Officer, Coordinator, General Studies Unit, Head, Department of Political Science, Dean, Student Affairs, Director of Consultancy and member of Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba among other positions of responsibilities.
He is a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration (FCIA), Fellow, Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (FABEN) and Member, Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) among others.
In the year 2020, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the then Governor of Kogi State, appointed Prof. Usman as Acting Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic and assumed duty on 7th April 2020. The appointment was confirmed on 12th February 2021.
As Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Professor Usman Ogbo has initiated and implemented far reaching reforms and reorganisation of the Institution. His administration has curbed insecurity, improved quality assurance and Academic excellence. He has transformed the institution in all ramifications including restoration of discipline and the improved welfare of staff and students.
His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State in an unprecedented reward for hardwork, excellence, loyalty and dedication to the transformation of the Institution decided in June 2024, to renew the appointment effective February, 2025. That is eight (8) months to the end of the first tennure. The historic action of the Governor is a clear message of absolute confidence and trust in the leadership of Professor Usman Ogbo in the Polytechnic.

Professor Usman assumed duty as the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
Prof. Usman has so far received more than one hundred (100) awards from various notable organisations and still counting.
It is important to note that this workaholic, dedicated, committed, diligent and ever loyal public servant has never received query all through his public service career.
Instead, he has received Six (6) letters of commendation from his employers across organisations for exemplary commitment and dedication to duties. These include:
- Letter of Commendation from the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, dated 10th March, 2008 for Vigilant and Diligent Supervision of subordinate.
- Letter of Commendation from the Governing Council of Kogi State University, Anyigba, dated 14th September, 2014 as Member of the 5 – Man E – Examination Team that deployed and successfully domesticated for the University, locally made e – examination platform with internally generated resources.
- Letter of Commendation from the Head, Department of Political Science, Kogi State University, Anyigba dated 21st September, 2015 for positive contributions as Examination Officer in the aspect of documentation, smooth administration of examinations and prompt computation of results for Senate approval.
- Letter of Appreciation from the Vice Chancellor, Kogi State University, Anyigba dated 5th August, 2016 for loyalty to the University, diligence, steadfastness and dedication to duty as Dean of Students’ Affairs.
- Letter of Commendation from the Governing Council of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja dated 17th June, 2022 for prudent and productive management of scarce resources.
- Letter of Commendation from the Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba dated 22nd May, 2026 in recognition of his leadership strides and achievements within his first 100 days in office.
In acknowledgement of his outstanding town and gown relationships in the discharge of his duties,
Prof. Usman was conferred with the chieftaincy titles by notable traditional institutions in the State.
He holds the revered title of ‘Oma’oja’ (Son of the masses) Ata Igala by Attah Igala, the paramount ruler of Igala Kingdom and President, Kogi StateTraditional Council of Chiefs;
He also holds the title of ‘Otunba Olutaiyese’ (Repairer of the world) of Ogidi Kingdom by the Ologidi of Ogidi Kingdom, Ijumu Local Government Area; and
‘Olugbon’ (The wise one) of Oke – Ibukun by the Olu of Oke – Ibukun Kingdom, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area among others.
‘Wakilin Karatu’ (Educational Ambassador) by the Maigari of Lokoja.
Professor (Chief) Salisu Ogbo Usman loves travelling, politicking and watching football.
He is happily married and blessed with children.
