VC Commissions Solar Light Provided By Faculty Of Management Sciences
The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, has commissioned the newly installed solar powered light provided by the Faculty of Management Sciences, describing the efforts as a bold initiative worthy of emulation by other Faculties.
The Vice-Chancellor said at the commissioning that one of the cardinal goals of the administration is to encourage research among staff, adding that such would not be possible without consistent power supply.
She therefore commended the Faculty for assisting the University in achieving its top most objective.
She added that with research published in highly reputable journals, the University could become more visible, which could enhance its ranking.
She expressed optimism that with the recent efforts of staff of the institution, the next ranking would be better, a development she stressed would not have been possible without the new policy on publications.
She thanked the Faculty for the innovative spirit of committing the end-user fee into the solar light project which she said would be of assistance to staff and students.
She further urged the students not to relent in paying their end-user fee, as they could see the benefits of such payment.
She also urged the Faculty to look inward and assist in fashioning out a way of generating more funds for the use of Faculty and the University as a whole.
She stressed that with the expertise in Accounting, Business Administration and Banking and Finance housed in the Faculty, the University should be to turn in their direction for a sustainable revenue generation alternatives.
Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor John Alabi had commended the Vice-Chancellor and members of Management for the noble initiative of the end-user fee which gave birth to the solar light project.
He explained that the facility covers 92 offices, 2 Lecture Theatres and 6 Lecture Rooms under the control of the Faculty.
He added that light and sockets for charging of phones are provided in the Lecture Theatres, offices and lecture rooms, while the Office of the Deans and Heads of Departments are fitted with fans and plasma TV facilities.
He however, stressed that there would be no provision for the use of refrigerator and Air-conditioning.
The contractor, he added, had been mobilised up to 70%, adding that the facility was funded fully from the User Fees paid by students.
