VC PAAU Solicits Support Of NSCDC On Campus Security
The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba, Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche has called for the support of the Anyigba Area Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the area of provision of physical security for staff and students of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor who made the call when members of Management of the University paid a courtesy call at the Command Office in Anyigba said the issue of security had been of great concern to the administration since coming on board and would like the involvement of NSCDC in achieving more for the University in that regard.
She explained that before coming on Board as an Administration, there were incessant cases of cult activities and other social vices on campus, but with the security measures put in place, those have become a thing of the past. The measure she stressed include the involvement of Vigilante, private security, the Police and the Army.
She also added the improvement in sporting facilities as another measure that has impacted on students positively by taking their minds off crime and criminalities.
She therefore appealed for similar cooperation with the NSCDC so as to consolidate on the gains recorded so far.
The Vice-Chancellor added that although the University might not need their involvement in the daily maintenance of security on campus, she stressed that they should avail themselves at anytime the University might need them.
She expressed the determination of the University to support them in whatever way possible to facilitate their operations.
Responding, the Assistant Commandant of Corps, Anyigba Area Command, Mr Omodu Joseph said the Command was pleased to receive the Vice-Chancellor and her Management team, stressing that it was a further demonstration of the University’s acknowledgment of importance of the Corps.
He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for providing furniture in their office which have made their operations easier.
The Assistant Commandant promised to give whatever support required by the University to ensure the safety of staff and students both within and outside the campus.
He explained some ways they had been assisting students in recovering stolen items, adding that efforts would be made to step up tempo in a way desired by Management.
He however stressed that even though the University had assisted the Command in the area of land donation and provision of furniture, he would still plead with the University to provide more assistance especially in the control of roof leakages during rainy season and provision of vehicle to ease operations.
The Vice-Chancellor in response promised to look into the request to see what could be done.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the Visit by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor O.J. Saliu, the Registrar, Alhaji Nuhu A. Ahmed, the Bursar, Mrs Aminat Anuhi, the Head of the University Libaray, Mr Oladimeji Yemi-Peters, the Director of Works and Maintenance, Engr. Gabriel Onate, the Chief Security Coordinator, DCP Aurelius Yusufu Adejo (rtd) and the Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr Ishaq Arome Aikoye.
