Sport Unit Constitutes Committee On Inter-Faculty Games Sponsorship
A Committee on sponsorship of Inter-Faculty Games by individual philanthropists and corporate bodies has been constituted by the Sports Unit of the University.
The Committee which is chaired by Professor Felix Enegho of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities is charged with the responsibilities of sourcing for and commit individuals and organisations who are able and willing to sponsor the competition scheduled to hold in the second semester of the 2022/23 session.
The Director of Sports of the University, Comrade Moses Balogun who made the announcement at a meeting of the Sports Unit and Faculty Sport Officers also enjoined all stakeholders to work towards the success of the Games.
He stressed that the Inter-Faculty Games would henceforth be expanded to accommodate medals for individual sporting events, adding that the old era of combining events for a single medal was no longer feasible.
He however added that doing such entails more resources which would be required to fund the increasing number of medals. He therefore urged all to work hard to harness resources for the Games.
On participation fees by the Faculties and College, it was resolved that all Faculties and College should pay N100,000 as participation fees due to the rising inflationary trends.
Participants at the meeting commended the University Management for the all round support given to sport in the year past which led to historic feat recorded in the process.
They specifically mentioned the historic triumph of the University Football Team, The Steelers, at the 2022 Higher institutions Football League (HIFL). Highlight of the meeting was the decision to stage the 2023 Inter-Faculty Games in the 7th Week of the second semester, 2022/23 session, subject to the approval of the University Management.
